Guitarist Stephano D'Silva and a hand picked band will be performing interpretations of the late Amancio D'Silva's more eastern inflected pieces recorded from 1969 thru 1974 originally with musicians such as the legendary Joe Harriot and others including Don Rendell and Ian Carr, as heard on Gilles Peterson's Impressed series and subsequent album re-releases

The gig is part of the Indo-Jazzwise series produced by Serious and Jazzwise magazine.

Thus far the line up should make for an explosive set. Drummer extraordinnaire Thomas White, a  long time collaborator with Stephano in various  projects, and double bassist Sam Burgess, with others to be confirmed.

The attempt will be to present Amancio's music with all its compositional strengths, while at the same time reflecting Stephano's own feelings for the tunes and the influence his father's playing has had on him, with a presentation entirely his own. The set will move intowards its end into music written by Stephano, himself...hopefully in a natural transition.

Tomanno, a free post-rock, ambient improv duo (featuring Steph D'Silva on guitar and live manipulations and Thomas White on drums) have just self-released a soaring album entitled "Say" recorded in one blistering live session this April, and available now from Smallfish records, Old Street, London ( www.smallfish.co.uk ...search Tomanno) with store review and samples online, and Disque records Islington, London (www.disque.co.uk ), and hopefully soon thru similar specialist outlets in U.S., Japan and France to start with. Album is only £7.99.

The near two year struggle to obtain royalties from Universal due to Amancio's widow, Joyce, continues, hopefully not in vain. Absolutely nothing paid on the re-release of Integration. But please don't let this dissuade you from buying it...most of all it's good to see the music getting to those who would dig it.

Amancio's previously unreleased Konkan Dance album will be released on the Vocalion label on February 10th, 2006, and will be available from the major stores and online...including Amazon etc. See discography for more info.
A very limited edition Vinyl of the same album is also being prepared for release in September, totally independently of the CD release, by Italian label Q-Bico on heavyweight vinyl and with designs by Qbico himself

Another recording detailed in the discography page may see a release soon. The '83 session. A suitable label for this is currently being sought.

Amancio’s Integration continues to be a very popular jazz buy on CD. No clear word on Hum Dono re-release yet, though. Will post here if / once known.

Check links page for some interesting new... links, of course.

There is a hope that the recording from ‘83 with Clem Alford, Lynn Dobson and Jalhib millar will fairly soon see a release...more on that as we have it.

Hoping soon to make available some rare “bootleg” recordings of Amancio with collaborators...various live sets from 80’s mainly. Likely will sell online.

Several articles are in the works by various contributors, including one by Chris May for the superb online magazine All About Jazz due fairly soon. See the Links page for other articles on Amancio.

More Jaipurs!                                                                                                        Albums by Wout Steenhous and Los Dorados have been spotted on e-bay recently, the sellers interestingly plugging Amancio’s name big time, though he’s not involved artistically. They contain, both of them, cover versions of Jaipur. The latter outing was fronted by George Dorado, a pianist and some-time early collaborator of Amancio’s on the London scene in the late 60’s.

Several recordings have been either remastered or uncovered dating from the 80’s mainly. These include:

A gig with the ‘83 studio session line up (Dobson, Millar, Alford and D’Silva)

A recording by the National Sound Archive from ‘87 of  a line up including guitar, tabla, sitar and vocals at the Commonwealth Institute’s World Fusion Music Village Fair. This recording features a version of Jaipur, the track now becoming synonymous with Amancio’s name.

A recording from ‘84 from Colchectser Arts centre of a fairy Avant Garde all star line up, including Pipe organ, Double Bass, Sax and Guitar.

Finally, a recording of a jam featuring Amancio, son Stephano and daughter Francesca from around ‘86/7. This actually features a very Hum Dono feel from Amancio, stylistically and the enjoyment of the session is very easy to hear.

Some of these will hopefully be made available to the discerning “fan” at some point, somehow. Watch this space.
